2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

The news mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire content from Ismailer's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to heart and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its promise to our players.

Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of the team. Following a period of talks, he comes aboard us on next week.

Ben’s management and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most popular series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
