Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
