PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
